MIDDLEFIELD FARMS

Picture

This 13-acre Bainbridge Island farm was begun almost 100 years ago by the patriarch of the family, Jitsuzo Nakata. It began as a strawberry farm. When the family turned to the grocery business, namely the creation of the Town & Country Market (and all its offshoots), the farm lay fallow for many years. Recently, that farm is enjoying a rejuvenation.

Brian MacWhorter, an island farmer, was invited to work the Nakata land and is currently producing organic vegetables, many of which are sold at T&C and Central Market.
