Our group began with the purpose of saving a 144-acre tree farm property from development.  As our project evolves, we envision our horizons widening to include the larger issues surrounding agriculture in our local communities. This is our mission.

 Mission Statement:

Picture

To support the preservation, reclamation, and use
of agricultural land to enrich environmentally, socially,
and culturally sustainable communities.
Toward this mission we:

-- advocate for local farming and local buying campaigns in order to protect our region's
food security and to maintain healthy local food systems

-- promote on-farm educational, charitable, and volunteer opportunities
              through various community outreach programs

-- create opportunities for more land to become farmland

-- research and study ways to effectively accomplish these goals and
              further our organization's mission

 The Hansville Farm

The 144-acre property that lies in the middle of the Hansville community offers a          unique opportunity for residents throughout the region to share in the production of healthy, locally grown food. To assist in keeping this farmland as a sustainable, preserved food source and open space for the benefit of the community-at-large in perpetuity, our future agenda for this property includes:

         -- leasing the land

         -- enriching the soil

-- offering farm plots to new and experienced farmers

-- cultivating the fields with market-fresh produce

-- offering hands-on farming experiences to community members through
P-Patch gardens
                and volunteer opportunities

-- providing community classes in food production, land stewardship, and marketing

-- building community  and fundraising support toward the goal of
purchasing this land and placing it under permanent, protective easement
